Got nothing to post and due to my extremely irritated condition with my head, i.e. running at the deadline with unfinished assignment, I thought that I'll just post this 3 hours work in today's entry.

Anyway one does wonder if today's news and teevee shows will be filled with snippets of the you know what tragedy at the you know where done by you know who. Must be boring. Oh well ... actually it's the blind patrioticism that makes me irritated. And the generalization stuff at other religion. Some ppl suggested that they've got a huge ego in their head. dunno if it's true though. not gonna clarify or bother with it. my life pretty sucks anyway.

Teknologi Nano

Teknologi nano merupakan satu bidang sains dimana bidang ini bertujuan untuk mengawal atom dan molekul secara individu untuk membentuk cip komputer dan lain-lain peranti yang lebih kecil dari apa yang diizinkan oleh teknologi masa kini. Proses pembuatan masa ini menggunakan litografi untuk mencetak sirkit pada bahan semikonduktor. Walaupun litografi telah meningkat secara dramatik sejak dua dekad lalu, sehingga di mana wujudnya kilang pembuatan yang boleh menghasilkan sirkit yang lebih kecil dari satu mikron (1000 nanometer), ia masih menggunakan jutaan atom. Adalah dipercayai bahawa litografi akan mencapai had fizikalnya. Untuk terus mengecilkan lagi saiz semikonduktor, teknologi baru yang tertumpu kepada ataom-atom individu adalah perlu.
Teknologi nano dijangka akan membenarkan:
" Barangan pengguna yang dibina sendiri
" Komputer yang teramat laju
" Ciptaan baru
" Perjalanan ke angkasa
" Teknologi nano dalam bidang perubatan
" Pencemaran dihentikan dan dihapuskan
" Sintesis makanan secara molekul
" Pendidikan yang lebih baik
" Pengenalan semula flora dan fauna yang telah pupus
Dalam dunia maklumat, teknologi digital telah membenarkan penyalinan menjadi cepat, murah dan tepat, bebas dari kos dan kekangan oleh sumber tersebut. Dengan menganggap atom sebagai objek yang diskrit, pembuatan pada tapak molekul akan membuahkan satu revolusi baru kepada pembuatan objek material. Dengan bekerja pada saiz yg paling terkecil, teknologi nano akan membenarkan pengecilan dan prestasi yang tertinggi. Dengan bermula dengan molekul, dan pemprosesan dengan mesin yang berfrekuensi tinggi dan produktif, ia akan menjadikan produk lebih murah.
Sejarah Teknologi Nano
Pada tahun 1959, Richard Feynman dalam satu persidangan, telah mencadangkan satu bidang bagi manipulasi unit terkecil bagi benda, yakni atom. Impian ini telah dianggap sebagai perbincangan saintifik pertama dalam teknologi nano. Pada tahun 1974, Norio Taniguchi, seorang saintis di Universiti Tokyo, mula menggunakan 'nanotechnology' bagi menbezakan kejuruteraan pada skala mikrometer dari paras yang lebih kecil.
Pada tahun 1986, Eric Drexler, seorang penyelidik di Massasuchetts Institute of Technology menulis buku Engines of Creation, buku yang dikatakan membawa bidang teknologi nano kepada arus perdana. Pada masa yang sama, penyelidik di Universiti Rice sedang mengkaji satu molekul yang ganjil. Dengan meruapkan karbon dan membenarkan ia terkondens dalam sejenis gas, kumpulan Richard Smalley mendapati bahawa karbon membentuk kristal-kristal yang sangat stabil yang mengandungi 60 atom kesetiap satunya. Mereka mengjangka yang kristal tersebut mempunyai struktur yang sama seperti yang digunakan dalam dom geodesik R Buckminster Fuller.
Eksperimen ini masih merupakan penemuan teknologi nano yang paling terkenal dan membolehkan kumpulan Smalley untukdianugerahkan Nobel Prize dalam Kimia.

Peralatan dalam Teknologi Nano
Sebelum 1980an, tiada peralatan yang dapat membenarkan saintis untuk mengkaji teknologi nano. Ini menyebabkan teknologi nano terbantut buat seketika. Pada awal 1980an, penyelidik-penyelidik di IBM telah mereka dua teknik 'microscopy' iaitu 'atomic force microscopy' (AFM) dan 'scanning tunneling microscopy' (STM).
Kedua-dua teknik ini menggunakan 'cantilever' yang kelihatan seperti jarum, untuk membaca satu permukaan secara terus, seperti bagaimana jarum pemain rekod membaca rekodnya.
AFM berfungsi dengan melalukan 'cantilever' tersebut berdekatan dengan beberapa nanometer sebuah permukaan tersebut. Kuasa atom yang menggerakkan 'cantilever' ini diukur untuk membentuk satu peta topografi atom ke atom.
STM adalah hampir sama, tetapa ia mengukur kesan quantum yang dipanggil penerowongan. 'Cantilever' STM mempunyai cas yang kecil. Teori fizik mengatakan bahawa satu dinding tenaga akan menghalang cas dari melompat ke permukaan, tetapi apabila dua atom mendekati keduanya, peraturan quantum membenarkan elektron menembusi dinding tersebut. STM mengukur penembus ini untuk memetakan permukaan objek tersebut.
Dengan memodulasikan voltan pada hujung 'cantilever' tersebut, saintis boleh menggunakan kedua-dua teknik ini lebih dari melihat atom, malahan mereka juga dapat menolak dan menarik atom kedalam tempat yang dikehendaki. Kedua-dua ini merupakan teknologi yang penting dalam teknologi nano. Tetapi, penyelidikan nano memerlukan penciptaan corak skala nano yang memerlukan peralatan yang lebih halus dan terperinci.
Peralatan ini ialah litografi e-beam. Berbeza dari fotolitografi, yakni teknik yang digunakan untuk membuat cip mikro, litografi e-beam tidak dihadkan oleh panjang gelombang cahaya. Dengan menggunakan pancaran elektron dari satu mikroskop pengimbas elektron, penyelidik boleh menghasilkan buatan yang terperinci sekecil beberapa nanometer.
Tujuan
Pada masa ini, pengkajian nano adalah tertumpu kepada penyelidikan yang asas. Tetapi mereka berharap pada satu masa yang akan datang, mereka dapat mengembangkan telknologi nano kepada bidang-bidang lain seperti biologi, kimia, komputer dan sebgainya.
Dengan menggunakan tiub nano yang semikonduksi, penyelidik telah membina beberapa komponen elektronik asas. Ini termasuklah transistor. Terdapat juga makmal yang melaporkan kejayaan dalam membina wayar nano silikon.
Pendekatan nano ke arah pengkomputeran seperti pengkomputeran molekular, yang menggunakan suis molekul untuk memproses data dan pengkomputeran kuantum yang menggunakan eletron tunggal, memberikan harapan yang sirkit terintegrasi akan dapat selari dengan Moore's Law.
Konsep
Terdapat dua konsep yang biasa dihubungkan dengan teknologi nano iaitu:
" Pemasangan berposisi (positional assembly)
" Replikasi semula

Pemasangan Berposisi
Keperluan bagi pemasangan berposisi adalah menandakan minat dalam bidang robotik bermolekul, yakni peranti robotik yang bersaiz dan berketepatan.molekul. Peranti pemposisi berskala molekul ini adalah hampir serupa dengan alat-alat yang menjalankan tugas yang serupa pada masa ini. Pemasangan berposisi ini adalah biasanya digunakan dalam pembuatan makroskopik hari ini dan memberikan kelebihan yang jelas.
Tarikan pembuatan molekul bagi industri komputer adalah jelas. Ia membenarkan pembuatan komuter pada kos yang kurang dari satu dollar per pound, beroperasi pada frekuensi yang lebih tinggi, dengan dimensi yang linear, kebolehharapan yang tinggi dan perlepasan haba yang rendah. Industri komputer telah membelanjakan berbilion dolar untuk mencipta komputer yang lebih hebat. Adalah difahami bahawa had bagi litografi adalah hampir jelas. Ini secara langsung menggalakkan lagi penyelidikan ke arah pemasangan berposisi dengan kawalan di paras molekul.
Pemasangan berposisi adalah berkait rapat dengan penggunaan teknologi STM. Ini adalah disebabkan hasil dari STM dapat menggerak dan memposisikan atom dengan lebih mudah. Walaubagaimanapun dijangka pencapaian dalam bidang pemasangan berposisi yang berorientasikan komputer adalah dalam 10 tahun lagi.
Replikasi Sendiri
Keperluan untuk mengurangkan kos mencipta minat dalam sistem pembuatan yang boleh mengreplikasi sendiri seperti yang telah dikaji oleh von Neumann dalam 1940an. Sistem ini boleh mereplikasi diri sendiri dan membentuk produk yang berguna. Konsep ini telah diinspirasikan dari pemerhatian bagaimana tumbuhan dapat mereplikasi diri sendiri pada paras sel. Sebagai contoh, ubi kentang adalah mudah untuk replikasi semula. Tanamkan dan ianya menghasilkan lebih banyak ubi kentang.
Walaubagaimanapun, tujuan yang ingin dicapai adalah dari segi robotik. Bayangkan di mana robot-robot bersaiz nano yakni amat kecil, yang dapat mereplikasi semula dan berfungsi seperti kilang. Senario yang baik ialah dalam pembangunan robotik.
Replikasi semula merupakan jalan yang efektif bagi pembuatan berkos rendah. Walaupun ianya diinspirasi oleh tumbuhan dan organisma di sekeliling, adalah ditekankan bahawa agen replikasi semula ini adalah hampir serupa seperti robot. Sama ada dengan kawalan kepintaran buatan mahupun dengan kawalan manusia, replikasi semula masih dalam peringkat teori.
Kesimpulan
Teknologi nano memberikan masa depan yang agak menarik untuk ditempuhi. Dengan penghasilan produk yang berasaskan teknologi nano ini, dijangka kerja-kerja akan menjadi lebih mudah, keselesaan yang tinggi dan berkos murah. Dalam bidang komputer, dijangka teknologi nano dapat mengubah dan meningkatkan lagi prestasi komputer yang ada dengan beratus kali lebih hebat.

Finally, finished Icewind Dale II. Tough game to say the least. Combat heavy, hundreds of rules to be familiar with, lotsa magic weapons, spells and sorceries, Spine of the World, return to memory lane, do gooders, rebelling freaks, great soundtrack albeit ending abruptly and once in while, beautiful female portraits and great male ones. Too bad there's a shortage of quality voiceovers. Humorous once a while though. References to the previous prequel was like a trip to memory lane. I remembered playing the old game on the Merdeka night at the hostel while the college was doing a Merdeka wuhtever ceremony. Boring just couldn't describe it. Anyway, D&D 3rd Ed is a very fun game. With Icewind Dale II, it's a satifying experience. Go get the game while it's still hot.

Sheena. Heh, heh. Three times I watch the whole show, three times there were sexy moments. Gena Lee Nolin (sp?) is freakin' hot.

Anyway, I'm on a break from anime DVD collecting. Budget reasons. Prolly will continue after I get the next semester's loan. I've bought three new boxed sets last week. Neon Genesis Evangelion:Death and Rebirth, Berserk and Ranma OAV. Ranma was hilarious!! Even though there's a romance factor thrown in, it's not too yucky like Fushiigi Yugi or ..... CCS. Yuck. Gimme Ranma 1/2. Anyway, Ranma 1/2 was an amazing experience. Great fun and humour. Berserk was gory and masochistic. It's about Gatsu who have a very large sword, like Cloud from FF7, and there's thousands of killing scenes. It's pretty weird at the end though, since at that moment the planes started to shift and the world changes. Eva, heh, recap, true to it's title though. Death and Rebirth.

The episode started with Rygel making an escape with a pod from Moya to the Peacekeeper's mothership. It's clear that Rygel wishes to stab the Farscape crew in the back in exchange for his freedom. The whole crew got emotional on this, and it turns to a very sappy episode, which everyone told each other like it's the last moment of life. Cut to the Peacekeeper's ship, Rygel is being treated royally with a hint of threat from Scorpius. Crais made an offer to Rygel, and Rygel and Crais flew back to Moya, being greeted by the end of guns from everyone i.e. Crichton, Aeryn, D'Argo, Zhaan and Chiana. Anyway Moya's baby is named Talyn by Aeryn. After a few yadda yadda, the episode end. As the finale of the first season. Damn. Is it the end of Farscape on TV2? Hope not. Else, replace it for something worthwhile rather than rubbish that seems to plague the national teevee this days.

I'm lost. I can't seem to find a reason to go on. There wasn't any thing that I can fall back to. Everything seems bleak. Is there truly anything that I'm really good at? I ... It seems that for the previous times that I breathed the air of life, the only thing that kept me going is to finish the day and sleep and shrug off any experiences of the day. I guess it's some sort of depression time. Can't find it. What does I really need to hold on for facing the next day? Got bored and there's nothing to do. The Konvokesyen sucks as usual. Food is like a million miles away and it seems so far to walk to and fro the stalls that were set up by the students. Bunch of greedy bloodsucking moneymongering, opportunity grabbing, piss eating scum if ya ask me. The food wasn't that great, the prices are a ransom, and well, crowdy. Bloody fucking crowdy. Bunch of wankers. Sucks. And the cafe at the fac too. Why the fuck that they has to close so fucking early and well, fuck fuck fuck. End...

Cyberlaw's assignment finished totalling at 3504 words comprising of 12 pages with various tragedic experience in printing the damn pages. Why oh why did my bloody epson printer likes to create problems at a time critical like this. It must be a female printer, since it's universally known that females are the biggest buggers on earth, all of 'em. Nuff said. But ... since the law of creation dictates that it's human nature to partner with the opposite sexes, so what to do. Even the prophet (PBUH) said it so. Oh, well.

I'll think I'm gonna waste some money more on DVD's again today. Currently targetting Project ARMS, Berserk, Ranma 1/2, any Gundam series, Nadia and the yadda yadda, and whatever looks attractive. Uhuh. Droolz at the g... w... t.. p... t...... Arrgghhh, get off me, bloody imagination, damn you, damn YOU!!!

It's September already. Wow. It seems that August was an eternity to finish, with all the works piled up and assignments and thesis and tutorials and animes and cartoons and whatnots. Anyway, yesterday was the independence day, just a pretty fancy day if ya ask me. I don't see much importance in a grandiose celebration, if the citizens just thought it's just a day for resting, yeap, ya heard me, the celebration just a day where we get to parade and act like we deserve the independence, as if, okay I don't really think this is what I should write, since we are supposed to be the proud citizen of a great nation and we are supposed to live and defend our grounds to the end and let those in power dictates what and how anything should be done, eventhough it isn't really nothing, unless we voiced our complaints vocally, which in this case, we will be arrested by the Internal Security Act and jailed without a chance to defend ourselves and .... ya get tha point. Pretty bleak situation if ya ask me. Law and Legalities just provide more complications to ourselves. Where have days when we are having moral standards and upholding the standard code of ethics gone by? More like a wuss tho, yet if we live with etiquette, surely life aren't that bad, and we might not ending feeling up so oppressed, aren't we? Or not.

1st September, there goes my CuteFTP XP 5.0 trial. The protection scheme was deviously done, actually nagging like hell, so my attempts to crack it using crackware from al over the Net felt like a chore rather than a process to ease the task at hand. Bah. It's back to using standard command prompt again. More power to command line. Yeay!! Sometimes GUI can be a pain in the ass, at times. Aren't we spoiled. This and that. Complaint, complaint, complaint. Heh.

Was watching cartoons as usual. I hate getting older. Some people said that only kids watch cartoons and anime. Hello!! It is fun watching anime and cartoons. It is fun, it's way beyond fun, it's an escape from the bleak of reality. It's the world where be all you can be stuff. Where heroes are always in abundance, where magical creatures roam freely, mingling with humans, where mechas are the norms, where gigantic monsters are always ended up getting defeated, where sometimes the hero are not the typical hero potrayed in the teevee, yeah, it's a geek thing. Life's pretty hectic without someone or something to turn to, so I guess cartoons, anime and games are the path I chose for me. End!

Last night, was watching Harry Potter the DVD version. Yikes. And there were a lot of differences from the book and the adaptation to the big screen, so as usual, I end being a critic. They've changed a lot in the big screen, kinda felt weird though. But there's a lot of things that made watching the movie first pretty fun. Seems that when you read the book, it felt like you can really see the characters faces and putting faces to the characters and the scenes and a lot more. Now, can't wait for the next release of the book and the adaptation of book 4 alias the Goblet of Fire to the big screen. Heh. Me wanna see Hermione become a pretty girl. Yeay!

Yesterday, my freakiness with Anime got the best of me, and I ended up shelling 60 bucks for the complete Neon Genesis Evangelion set. Well, not the complete set actually since it's mainly comprised of episodes from 1-24, and the ending are left hanging. I guess this is the purpose of Gainax to attract buyers to buy the final DVD set. Damn. Anyway, the whole box DVD set took me about 9 hours of anime watching, which left me completely shocked by the final episodes of the series. Didn't realise that it will get that psychotic and neurotic even. But, I think this is another of a must see anime, espescially due to the conflicts in characters, character development, the mechas or EVAs. Sugoi!!! You can call me Ikari Shinji from now on ;).

Wednesday, wasn't the greatest day exactly, since my thesis mate still recuperating from the humiliation of the VIVA imposed by the supervisor and the moderator. Aw. Dunno bout him, but me, I just killed whatever memories that I remember of that awful stuff called presentation. Apparently, I hate being in the front, to present something, propose, human contact, dugong, and whatnots. Since most classes are being cancelled, which is fine by me if there's no class at all for the remainder of the day, but the sucky thing is there is a class. And a very drowsy one too. Guess I'm drowning in a flood of works and tutorials and I'm trying to swim away from the currents of responsibility, by floating in a pond of ecstasy, forgetting all the stuff to be done and submitted et al. Procrastinating? No. Just running away from reality.

On Tuesday, I bought the Record of Lodoss War for 40 bucks. That's another good anime series. Lucky that I'd have some money left for spending purposes and boy, was I impressed. Eventhough the animation wasn't really on a level with Ghost in The Shell, Spirited Away or even Akira, the premises that this series takes place makes up for it. The only gripe that I have with this series is the translation was like the Yoda speech, which waaaaaay baaaaad. Nuff said, it's enjoyable though.

On Monday, a boy killed himself. Apparently by filling his car by the exhaust smoke, and die an exhausting death. Wonder what drives him to it. Must've been pretty strong thing to make him chose death rather than face the problem. Oh well.
